The Tsurugi is a straight, double-edged sword that was used by Samurai of the Kofun period (300 to 538 AD). The tough and durable wooden Tsurugi has an oval cross section blade. The tsuba (guard) is constructed from two pieces of laminated cross-grained hickory for maximum strength and is permanently attached to the blade and can not loosen or slide off.
